The video on regression in the SPSS software was helpful and easy to understand how to compute regression into a numeric variable. I understand that sometimes you may need to compute a new variable based on existing information from other variables in your data. Numeric variables have data values that are recognized as numbers, this means that they can be sorted numerically or entered into arithmetic calculations. The video was presented well and is easy to understand, because of the step-by-step video. I am a visual learner, so I appreciate the links to the videos. Numeric variables contain only numbers and are suitable for numeric calculations such as addition and multiplication. String variables may contain letters, numbers and other characters. You can’t do calculations on string variables -even if they contain only numbers. There are no other variable types in SPSS than string and numeric. However, numeric variables have several different formats that are often confused with variable types.
What I still find difficult is knowing which variable is string variables and numeric variables and when to compute them. I agree the more you play around with the SPSS software will help you understand how to compute the variables.
Statistical analysis is crucial in public health. Statistical analysis improves data interpretation and understanding. Therefore, public health professionals should familiarize themselves with statistical analysis techniques and appropriate software for data analysis. The software provides valid and reliable test results, saves time, and allows the analysis of large amounts of public health data. The rationale for learning how to utilize data analysis software is that the software is flexible and effective compared to manual methods. For instance, the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) allows the fast analysis of global and national public health data. SPSS provides accurate results used in making meaningful conclusions about public health. According to Hayat et al. (2017), learning utilization of statistical software enables public health researchers to apply advanced statistical techniques in data analysis.
Public health professionals can use statistical software to analyze death and infection data for a specific population. The statistical results can help identify groups with high disease prevalence and plan for group-specific interventions. Public health professionals can also use statistical software to identify health concerns such as disease outbreaks, the magnitude of the injury, and disease distribution over large populations (Ali & Bhaskar, 2016). Another importance of learning how to utilize statistical software is gaining insights into public health research. Public health practitioners can use statistical software to monitor and compare national and international health trends. The researchers can identify potential health improvements and progress of health interventions in addressing emerging health issues (Ali & Bhaskar, 2016). Additionally, researchers can make informed decisions regarding health promotion policies. Indeed, public health professionals should learn how to conduct statistical tests using statistical software.

I loved your post above. Choosing the right statistical software to achieve data is a challenge especially for those new to the game. Dembe, Partridge & Geist (2011) state that many Health Services Research (HSR) investigators, particularly junior investigators new to the field, are often uncertain about which software programs to adopt. Attempts have been made by some authorities to evaluate the relative merits and limitations of the various software programs. However, the choice of a particular software package for a particular HSR study generally will be dependent on the study’s specific computational needs, the investigators’ skills and experience, and their judgment about the suitability of a particular software application for a specific analysis (Dembe, Partridge & Geist, 2011).

Healthcare providers have reliable and multifaceted information from several authoritative sources through their Internet connections. Within the reach of the mouse and keyboard, these rich resources can illuminate a clinician’s local experiences, offer comparisons in healthcare delivery and outcomes, and provide validated evidence-based practices.Healthcare is a multi-dimensional system established with the sole aim for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of health-related issues or impairments in human beings. The major components of a healthcare system are the health professionals (physicians or nurses), health facilities (clinics, hospitals for delivering medicines and other diagnosis or treatment technologies), and a financing institution supporting the former two. The health professionals belong to various health sectors like dentistry, medicine, midwifery, nursing, psychology, physiotherapy, and many others. Healthcare is required at several levels depending on the urgency of situation. Professionals serve it as the first point of consultation (for primary care), acute care requiring skilled professionals (secondary care), advanced medical investigation and treatment (tertiary care) and highly uncommon diagnostic or surgical procedures (quaternary care).

Mobile phones and smart TVs were hardly the first or last examples of software technology innovation. Software products have been used for decades in vital industries like healthcare. However, in order to closely track changes in health profiles and events like the pandemic, such health care software systems must be updated often. Additionally, big data analytics has several uses in medical research, diagnosing, assessing and forecasting changes, as well as in the quest for treatments for diseases including AIDS, COVID, and cancer. An AI system may be modified to work in a variety of fields. In order to ensure that the data the systems utilize are as accurate as possible, this requires strong cooperation between businesses operating in the healthcare sectors and software professionals as well as legislators.
Obtain focus group health data from web platforms to create technology-enabled remedies. Surveys and social media trends can provide information about eating habits and health status across different racial and geographic groupings. By connecting the collected data, it is possible to develop health profiles, calculate trends, and assess the efficacy of public health initiatives. It can forecast illnesses, assess the frequency and severity of diseases, and assist governments in developing public health policies. On the other side, it can indicate businesses in the healthcare industry eager to offer reliable growth or investment choices supported by research.
Electronic Health Information – Across the board, healthcare organizations have discovered that implementing an EHR/EMR is the most efficient method for institutionalizing patient medical records. You will notice the superior design of ezEMRx, CDP’s specialized public health software, as you explore it. It offers easy access to patient medical histories, records preservation of episodic patient interactions, and easy access to patient information, along with a variety of business-side features.

Statistical software is important for public health professionals because it allows them to easily and accurately analyze data. This is important because it allows public health professionals to identify trends and patterns in data, which can help them to develop policies and interventions to improve public health. Additionally, statistical software can help public health professionals to communicate their findings to others in a clear and concise manner.
For example, if a public health professional is studying the prevalence of a particular disease, they can use statistical software to identify any patterns in the data. This information can then be used to develop interventions to address the problem. Additionally, if a public health professional is studying the effectiveness of a particular intervention, they can use statistical software to analyze the data and determine whether the intervention is effective.
Statistical software is also important for public health professionals because it allows them to easily create graphs and charts to illustrate their findings. This can help to clarify the findings for others and help to advocate for change.

It is vital to use data in public health delivery, and it can be used in many ways and for various critical purposes. Data can be used to evaluate program impact, determine appropriate public health interventions, monitor progress, determine populations to target for intervention, determine barriers to care, and influence public policy. Data is crucial to demonstrate and evaluate the impact of an intervention, monitor progress towards a goal, determine barriers to care and influence public policy. As much as data is essential in Public health, electronic health record software is crucial for running a medical practice efficiently and improving public health. EHR applications keep track of patients’ medications, alerting the staff when a new prescription or over-the-counter remedy may cause a life-threatening interaction. Medical software enables healthcare professionals to make their decisions faster and more precisely. They also allow the emergence of new data and enrich decision-making processes, which is especially important regarding medical diagnosis software.
As I envision myself becoming a health care worker in the future, it is vital to learn and understand how to use different public health software. Working with knowledge of how to use electronic health record limit mistakes and enhance proficiency. When a team builds a good relationship with the electronic health record, it can rely on it for the proper outcome and goal. For example, electronic health records are used for providers to submit data about every new incidence of breast cancer. The information is provided to help researchers perform statistical analyses of disease incidence in different population subsets. Because researchers are trained to use the system as medical providers, they can receive the information provided to enhance their research.

Education in modernized statistical methods, including advanced modeling and computationally intensive statistical techniques, is necessary for staying current and implementing new advanced and methods. In addition to solid training in classical statistics, we suggest that graduate public health programs may also benefit from providing advanced biostatistics education and training opportunities to their students. Statistical software and computing power now enables researchers to readily access and make use of advanced statistical methods. Public health professionals may benefit greatly from continuing education training opportunities that provide a structured foray into such methods, coupled with statistical software training to show how to apply these methods to real world data. ( Hayat MJ, 2017)
Statistics knowledge is essential for reading and understanding public health research. Review of a random sample of publications from top tier general public health journals showed descriptive statistics and tabular results were reported in more than 95% of the articles. About three quarters of the articles reviewed reported inferential statistics (e.g., p-value, confidence interval). In addition, classic and advanced statistical models were reported in more than a third of the publications. A working knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics is essential to comprehend, evaluate, and interpret the results for most research studies. Graduate training for public health students and continuing education in biostatistics education for public health professionals are essential for acquiring and maintaining statistics knowledge, as well as continuing to develop new skills as more complex methods are increasingly used and reported.

Statistical software is important for public health professionals because it allows them to easily and accurately analyze data. This is important because it allows public health professionals to identify trends and patterns in data, which can help them to develop policies and interventions to improve public health. Public health professionals are able to communicate their findings to others in a clear and concise manner using analytical findings. For example, Fade (2004) dieticians (public health nutritionist) use qualitative data analysis to find out about prevalence of diseases such as diabetes or cultural eating habits. This information can then be used to develop interventions to address the problem. Additionally, if a public health professional is studying the effectiveness of a particular intervention, they can use statistical software to analyze the data and determine whether the intervention is effective.
