However, healthcare professionals such as nurses can also face various problems that may lower their ability to appropriately provide the needed healthcare and patient care services to patients in various settings. One of such issues usually faced by nurses is burnout. Therefore, the chosen topic for the capstone is burnout. Burnout is a common problem experienced by many professionals at their places of work, including nurses. Burnout is usually characterized by lower personal achievements and accomplishments, depersonalization, and emotional exhaustion (Suleiman‐Martos et al.,2020). This problem is caused by various issues such as heavy workload, insufficient resources, administrative burden, and emotional stress.

Nurse burnout is relevant to the field of health psychology since it revolves around the professional’s well-being, psychology, and healthcare. Burnout involves various psychological aspects, such as emotional exhaustion, psychological distress, and the development of various mental illness symptoms. In addition, it has various factors connected to it, such as stress and coping, patient outcomes and healthcare quality, and positive psychology and resilience. Burnout is relevant to both nurses and patients. When nurses face burnout, they experience unwanted mental and psychological symptoms that negatively impact their lives, health, and productivity (Yeşil & Polat, 2023). Therefore, there is a need to explore strategies that can be used to reduce burnout. As earlier indicated, it is also relevant to the patients. Nurses facing burnout may be prone to making various medical mistakes, such as medication errors, which put patient’s lives at risk. These negative impacts mean that there is a need for various stakeholders to use particular strategies to help control nurse burnout rates, improve the nurses’ mental health, and improve their capacity to serve patients better and eliminate potential medication errors.
