The readings on the topic of disease and healing have been incredibly interesting. I have found the analysis of disease and healing to be especially fascinating. The BibleProject videos have been a great source of information on this topic, providing an overview of the Bible, its literary styles, and the various ways in which the Bible is used for healing and understanding of diseases. I think the Crossway article is particularly interesting, as it discusses the concept of ‘scientism’ and provides an explanation of how science can be used to interpret the Bible. Additionally, the Science, Religion, and Dialogue article provides an overview of how science and religion can be used together to better understand disease and healing (Grand Canyon University, 2021). The SSC.GCU article provides an in-depth look at how the Bible can be used to understand the relationship between disease and healing. Finally, the Bibliu article(2021) provides an overview of how the Bible can be used to understand the various aspects of disease and healing.

Overall, I believe that the analysis of disease and healing in the readings is valuable and insightful. The Bible can be used to gain an understanding of the spiritual, physical, and psychological aspects of healing. What aspects of the topic readings do you find the most interesting?

The topic reading that I find the most interesting is Pantheism. Growing up in an area where Pantheism is a very popular worldview. I want to say that many people worship nature more than God. Although I was raised Christian, during my teen and young adult years of my life I became interested in the idea that God and nature are one and the same as the textbook explains it. At the time I did not know there was a name for such an idea. The Encyclopedia Britannica defines Pantheism as “the doctrine that the universe conceived of as a whole is God and, conversely, that there is no God but the combined substance, forces, and laws that are manifested in the existing universe” (Reese, W, 2023). In other words what Pantheism explains is that a tree, a river, a flower, etc. is God.

What is your view of the analysis of disease and healing in the readings? Explain.

My understanding of diseases and healing in the reading each culture has its own view on the matter. As a nurse, I must have an understanding of cultural beliefs in order to provide the proper care with the most effective approach.

The aspect of the topic that I find the most interesting is “Ethics”. I believe that ethics depends on a person’s worldview. It is based off one’s intentions, actions, or moral agents. Ethics is primarily about what an individual considers to be right from wrong. What some people believe is right from wrong may differ according to their cultural values. For example, one may find that eating with your hands is improper and is not acceptable, while in countries such as Africa, it is the norm. Regardless of one’s feeling or preference their choice is not necessarily wrong or right, it is subjective.

My perspective on disease and healing stems from analyzing the Fall of man to the Redemption of Christ. Adam and Eve were tempted by the devil and disobeyed God, which lead to the hardship and suffering of life for humanity. However, regardless God redeemed mankind by sending his only begotten son to die for us. This builds faith and hope which develops a piece of mind towards spiritual healing.

Thank you for your post. The complexity of the world challenges one’s understanding of what is morally right and wrong (Bogue & Hogan, 2020). Some actions, such as genocide and rape, are clearly wrong while others, such as self-sacrifice and saving another’s life, are clearly right. While most laws, at minimum, have a moral component, what is moral does not always make something legal. For instance, exceeding the speed limit could cause an accident and harm someone. Yet, on freeways, it is not uncommon for cars to drive well over the speed limit without getting ticketed. Law enforcement sometimes allows drivers to exceed the limit because of the flow of traffic and other times not. what is legal does not always make something moral. Finally, consider cultural etiquette. Often in different cultures one’s manners are equated to what is morally right and wrong. Human beings were created to know and love God in perfect relationship to him. More than that, they were meant to reflect the character and goodness of God in all of life. The Bible teaches that human beings ought to live in obedience to the commands of God and be transformed in their character to reflect the goodness of God.

The topic reading that I find most interesting is: “Health care situation with an ethical dilemma for an individual patient and his or her caregivers.” Individual patients, caregivers, and nursing staff face ethical dilemmas in which they must make decisions that can go against their values. This is interesting to me because I grew up in a multiracial family within a diverse multiracial cultural and socioeconomic neighborhood in San Francisco. I work at a hospital which is in Oakland, California which is also a diverse city with many cultural and religious values. My coworkers also are quite diverse ethnically, religiously, and spiritually.

I attempt to see the lives of others to be open to understanding how and why they make decisions in their lives. I do know that my own values may conflict with others so I would like to better understand this and learn how to navigate the various situations I may and will encounter (Jansen et al., 2019).

The WHO states that health is a state of well-being that includes mental, social and physical well-being instead of only being the absence of disease or sickness (World Health Organization, 2022). I see disease as dysfunction or impairment in a body or even society which seeks a cure or relief. My view is that disease is something we want to treat which may be done through healing medically and holistically.
