The definition of spiritual care may vary based on various perspectives, leading to ambiguity in fully comprehending the concept in healthcare provision. My definition of spiritual care is usually anchored on my beliefs, cultural background, religion, and the specific context provided. There is no single universally accepted definition of the concept; therefore, there is a need to support the individual perspective fully. I believe the appropriate definition of spiritual care focuses on identifying patients’ meaning and purpose by exploring their values, beliefs, and sense of belonging (Jones et al., 2020).

The definition entails exploring critical aspects such as death, suffering, and the purpose of existence. Spiritual care also highlights the importance of connecting with a supreme being (Jones et al., 2020). It is critical to offer hope, comfort, and support in difficult situations (Jones et al., 2020). Furthermore, it focuses on integrating spirituality into daily life and manifests through their relationships with others and daily actions (Jones et al., 2020). The unique definition of spiritual care impacts nurse’s approach to delivering healthcare services.

The Christian perspective on spiritual care defines Christian nurses’ actions in delivering quality patient-centered care. Christian spiritual care is anchored on the belief in God and the teachings of the Bible. It aims to guide patients to develop a detailed relationship with God, leading to life based on Christian values. It is also based on emphasizing prayer and forgiveness. It is because prayers offer a connection and communication with God and seek guidance. On the other hand, forgiveness is critical in promoting healing and reconciliation (Haikola, 2023).

The Christian perspective also highlights the importance of church and community as essential approaches to supporting other believers and as a valuable source of strength and encouragement (Haikola, 2023). My perspective and Christian view of spiritual care vary. For instance, my perspective and Christian view of spiritual care focus on the whole person, meaning and purpose, and the importance of relationships.

The main difference in the definition of spiritual care is the source of meaning and purses since my perspective indicates that the source can be from personal beliefs, cultural background, and experiences. The Christian perspective views meaning and purpose coming from God and the teachings of the Holy Bible. In a nutshell, despite the difference in definition, the most essential approach for nurses is to offer care that respects the individual’s beliefs and values.
