Since I was unfamiliar with the Nevada Assembly Bill No. 327, I did a little more research and found that this bill only requires two hours of continuing education (CE) in cultural proficiency, equity, and inclusion with the renewal of one’s license (CEfast, 2021). Am I understanding you when you say that this bill which requires individuals who hold healthcare-related licenses to complete CEs related to diversity with their license renewals, impedes their role and performance efficiency as a nurse resulting from these additional CEs? You mentioned this policy also adversely affects advanced practicing nurses’ (APNs) ethical practices by prohibiting the scope of nursing practice guidelines that potentially hinder accessible care. Quality, cost, equity, diversity, and community health are inseparably linked. So without diversity and health equity, there is no quality (Bhatt & Bathia, 2018). Article by Bhatt and Bathija (2018) noted that by 2025, one in two residents of the United States (U.S.) is projected to self-identify as either African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino, or multiracial, this is according to the U.S. Census Bureau. You might want to consider the positive impact this has on APNs; it can help diverse their knowledge in cultural competency. I believe APNs and all health professionals must be diverse in cultural proficiency, equity, and inclusion to ensure access to quality health care among all Americans. Perhaps I do not understand what the restrictions of this bill are on APNs. Can you explain?
