Assignment Guidelines

  1. Search the library for a research article that is related to your DNP project or area of interest.
  2. Select one research article that that is a quantitative study you will use for your article critique.
  3. Submit the link or a PDF copy of your article and your justification for the selected article. Your justification should include:
    1. A summary of how the article relates to your potential DNP project topic or area of interest.
    2. The search terms you used in your search.
    3. The filters that you established for your search, such as year limits.
    4. The process you used to review the search results.

Lesson 1: Quantitative Research Designs—Part 2

Introduction

Last week, you reviewed some preliminary information on quantitative research designs and timeframes for conducting them. Understanding comparison groups and timeframes for measurement helps us understand which statistical test needs to be conducted.

This week, you will look at how designing research can improve the quality, rigor, and validity of the findings. Good research is designed to minimize extraneous variables that can affect outcomes.

In order to evaluate high-quality evidence, it is important to understand research designs and how a study’s design is important to answering the research question.

Remember the levels of evidence presented briefly in Week 2? This week, you will learn more details about sampling, comparisons, variables, timeframes, and statistical analysis. All  of these concepts come together to provide the entire research study picture.

  • Understand the factors that contribute to rigor and validity in quantitative research.
