Provision 7: The nurse, in all roles and settings, advances the profession through research and scholarly inquiry, professional standards development, and the generation of both nursing and health policy.
All nurses can participate in the advancement of the profession. They can expand nursing’s body of knowledge through scholarly research, participate in approved, ethical research involving human participants, and/or help develop a workplace structure that provides the organizational climate and infrastructure necessary for scholarly inquiry. Not all nurses must conduct research, but all nurses can participate in research by utilizing research findings and evidence in practice and maintaining their current knowledge of research, especially in their practice areas. (Olson & Stokes, 2016) The nurse advances the profession through research and scholarly inquiry.
The nurse who is a researcher or caregiver for patients who are participants in research must adhere to Provision 1 that recognizes the principle of respect and right to self-determination, Provision 2 that recognizes nurse’s primary commitment to the patient, and Provision 3 that identifies the obligation to protect patients from potential harm. (Olson & Stokes, 2016) Evidence Based Practice this provision sentence on the need for nurses to look beyond the care of individual patients at the bedside and take an active role in advancement of the nursing profession.
This is done through contributions to evidence-based practice, education, administration, and knowledge development. This is direct link between the patient care provided by the individual nerves and the responsibility of each nurse to advance the profession to ensure the consistent delivery of high quality, safe care. Therefore, as a nursing leader it is important to encourage meaning and bridge the gap for nurses to participate in knowledge development, evaluation, dissemination, and application to practice.

According to ANA Code of Ethics Provision 4, the nurse is in charge of nurse and is responsible for making decisions and acting in ways that are compatible with the duty to promote health and offer the best possible care (American Nurses Association, 2019).
For nurse leadership and ethical decision-making to function together, nurse leaders should examine the ethical obstacles their workforce frequently faces and choose the most effective solutions. Ethical leaders should work to provide an example of and encourage honest behavior while also being attentive to moral concerns and encouraging respect for human dignity to improve the performance of nurses (The Pennsylvania State University, 2018). Increasing the capacity to discuss and apply ethics in daily activities and to promote nurses’ ethical competence, may play a crucial role in enhancing patient safety.
The hiring process, daily huddles, and postings all across the unit are good places to start when introducing these qualities as a nurse leader. It is the responsibility of nurses to evaluate their competence and the standard of their practice. They should seek advice and assistance from licensed nurses and other medical experts when necessary. If they hold a managerial or administrative job, they are in charge of ensuring that the facility is secure so that the patient and the nurse are protected. In the treatment of their patients, nurses have a position of power. When accepting duties, asking for advice, and delegating tasks to others, they may contribute to ensuring high-quality care by exercising excellent judgment (American Nurses Association, 2020).
Nurses being responsible is a source of pride. Nurses display the traits of commitment, loyalty, honesty, and compassion by taking responsibility for their choices and actions. Nurses watch out for and support one another when it comes to direct care, education, or administrative duties. Through peer review, staffing strategies, credentialing procedures, and quality improvement programs, nurses should collaborate to resolve complicated problems and guarantee that all nurses have access to the tools they need to evaluate, maintain, and enhance their competence. Nursing professionals frequently allocate tasks to others. Nurses contribute to creating an environment focused on patient care and staff development by ensuring that duties are assigned to those with the relevant competence and monitoring delegated activities.
How a nurse perceives their leadership style is heavily influenced by ethics. Ethics is a nurse’s perspective on what is ethically correct or flawed. With the backing of evidence-based practice, ethics serves as the cornerstone of how nurse leaders see leadership. Leaders may also have an ethical impact in their interactions with their company and the individuals inside of it (Walden University, 2021). Considering the profession of nursing, they tend to set the standard for other professionals, including respiratory therapists, technologists, and certified nursing assistants (CNA). A nurse might significantly influence the patient’s opinion of the organization.Nurses must act morally when guiding patients and their families through rehabilitation.
