In this particular situation, it would be appropriate to use the data to create a comparison. Data visualizations have a large impact in regards to support decision-making for healthcare professionals (Park et al., 2021). The first step would be to accurately and efficiently gather the necessary information in order to compare the data. This information can be obtained in various ways and must accurately depict the problem at hand. The next step would be for the organization to interpret the data in order to draw meaningful conclusions. The data from both hospitals need to be organized. The last step is to compare the two and determine what plan can be made to limit unplanned readmission hospital rates and the contributing factors.

I would want the population, sex, medical condition, and initial admission diagnosis to all be included in the data. I would display them in a PowerPoint presentation and give each of them their own slide. This way each hospital would be information present while also being compared to the others in their respective categories. I would also ensure that the information is updated and relevant. I looked into the ASQ data collection and analysis tools. They not only describe what the tools and charts are used for, but they also have templates for many of them. These tools are designed to collect, interpret, and present data for easier analysis (ASQ, n.d.). This site would be helpful when needing to display data for a presentation and trying to figure out the best method to do so. For example, we are having an issue with the staff not charting tissue documentation correctly in the operating room. If I did a CQI on this topic, I would first decide what information I would collect. For this topic, I want to look at the documentation of different tissue types (ie frozen or room temperature).  I would plot these on two separate charts initially. I would then break down the two types into more specific data, such as if the tissue needs some type of reconstitution.

The ones that do not need fluid would not be included in this chart. Next, I would collect data on the frequency of specific information being charted. The information I would look for first is whether the fluid was charted as the manufacturer requires. I would also collect data regarding if other specific data was charted such as lot number, expiration date, and the staff involved in the preparation. After this data was collected, I can refer to the ASQ on what would be the best method to display my data. For this example, I might use a Pareto chart. A Pareto chart is a bar graph where the length of the bars represents frequency or cost (ASQ, n.d.). This type of chart is useful when displaying the frequency of problems occurring (ASQ, n.d.). When there are so many tools available to use to display data, it is helpful when the ASQ breaks them down in an easy-to-understand method so that the user can choose the most appropriate one for their project.
