Title: NUR 630 Summary of Current Course Content Knowledge

As a department leader, I have some familiarity with EBP, Quality, and Performance Improvement, but have had limited involvement overall. I have dealt with culture issues at most of the facilities I have worked at, so any insight into the development of better culture is welcomed. I have no experience in LEAN processes, but have a great need for them. I am looking forward to a better understanding of the development of quality processes and the development of performance improvement.

The evaluation of the performance improvement and quality in health care course content was interesting. There is evidence of familiarity concerning the majority of the objectives. Past classes have examined some materials, such as evidence-based practice and quality improvement. Quality improvement in healthcare relates to enhancement in patient outcomes, professional improvement, and system performance (Backhouse & Ogunlayi, 2020). The improvement mostly follows a multidisciplinary approach. Evidence-based practice (EBP) relates to improving a process by adopting high-quality scientific research evidence that can be applied in practice (Li et al., 2019). There is a significant correlation between some of the objectives; therefore, it is possible to make some connections.

The examination of the course content also has some new objectives—for instance, the concept of just culture. A simple overview shows that this concept relates to a process that seeks a fair conclusion for parties to an incident. It is based on openness, addressing harm, and learning instead of blaming (van Baarle et al., 2022). Learning how this concept relates to quality healthcare provision will be interesting. There were also other new concepts, such as outcomes and process measurement. It will be interesting to explore these objectives and learn their place in providing quality healthcare to patients and considering other stakeholders.

Evaluating the current course content elicits great excitement about the topics to be studied in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see how they relate to healthcare and how they are vital in improving professional careers. Additionally, it is exciting to find out how the course will prompt learners to the improvement of the field. The course-related topics that would be better discussed with the instructor and classmates include how to develop quality improvement plans and assess their efficacy.
