Research frameworks provide underlying structures to support collective research efforts. Research frameworks help to determine the right approaches and methods to apply to a given situation. Research frameworks also help to structure and plan research activities in what is trying to be learned. When a framework is used it allows the individual to get a better way to prioritise the team or individuals research efforts. Where the framework helps, is that it allows the researcher to explore the different types of research that can be conducted. It describes the various types of research and their purpose and when they should be used based on a combination of the product is in its lifecycle. Operational Research for example is used to seek measure and optimize a solution and the aspects of the solution. Tactical Research is used when a team or individual is looking to explore and validate potential solutions to a targeted problem.

The development of a framework or model helps one to organize their thinking and develop intended outcomes rather than by limited resources. It helps to initiate a specific proposed intervention and the mechanisms for making a difference. It also helps to clarify what needs to be in place to arrive to a conclusion.

Pretrial biases include errors in its study design and the recruitment of patients. These errors can cause fatal flaws in the information gathers which cannot be compensated in data analysis. Subjective measures can inflate observed variances while Objective measures are more appropriate to use when doing breast studies or venous thrombosis.

An informative discussion post on the significance of frameworks or models in guiding research or evidence-based practice projects and the appropriate selection. Caramanica et al. (2022) and O’Leary et al. (2022) provide some fresh perspectives on the use of a framework and leveraging EBP to establish best practices in our current worldview. What is a key point to assist you in your EBP implementation gleaned from either or both of these peer-reviewed articles?

Great post. Pretrial biases can definitely cause errors and effect the recruitment of patients. An objective approach is always best in order to obtain and gauge a proper analysis of how effective an EBP is. An organization or facility can be so bias or bought in into an EBP that its detrimental to the staff and causing more harm than good. Consistent re evaluation is significant for this exact purpose and in my opinion the most important phase in any framework.

A theoretical or conceptual framework is comprised of a number of interrelated statements that attempt to describe, explain, and/or predict a phenomenon. (Melynk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019) Identifying a conceptual or theoretical framework is an important step in designing a clinical study. Its purpose is to provide a framework for selecting the study’s variables, including how they relate to one another, as well as to guide the development of the intervention(s) in experimental studies. The inclusion of a well-defined conceptual or theoretical framework is important in guiding the study and explaining the findings of the study. (Melyn & Fineout-Overholt, 2019)

When crafted appropriately, it is clear how the theoretical/conceptual framework is driving the study hypotheses, the intervention if applicable, the outcomes, and the relationship between the proposed study variables. Without a well-developed theoretical framework, explanations for the findings of a study may be weak and speculative. A lack of or underdeveloped theoretical frameworks to guide the interventions can lead to bias.

You are correct. Frameworks are so essential when it comes to implementing evidence-based practice. Moullin et al. (2020) offered ten suggestions for using implementation frameworks in research and practice. The authors underlined the need to properly choose and implement frameworks to improve the demand and implementation of evidence-based practices. These three recommendations were the most essential to me out of the ten. The first requirement is that researchers and practitioners should understand why and how implementation frameworks can be utilized to guide their work. They should be knowledgeable of the many framework types available as well as their unique objectives. Second, researchers must acknowledge that only some frameworks can properly capture the implementation complexities of the issues. The final recommendation is that important stakeholders should be involved in selecting, adapting, and deploying implementation frameworks. According to the authors, collaborative involvement fosters ownership, buy-in, and framework implementation in real-world settings.
