Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement

A personal worldview arises based on an individual’s background and experience in human life. An individual’s environment determines their general perceptions, thinking and opinions over certain issues and practices. In nursing, nurses reflect on their past, present and future practices that drive them to the profession. Through the reflection, one develops a worldview and nursing process statement that defines their approach to care delivery and interactions with patients (Wilson et al., 2018). The purpose of this paper is discuss my personal worldview and nursing theory that aligns with it to impact my nursing practice.

Personal Worldview

My non-public global view on nursing practice is not based on one aspect, value, perception or opinion but rather a set of beliefs I possess influence my life and the world around me. The elements that influence my personal philosophy and worldview include religion, culture and my spirituality. Imperatively, I believe that nursing is a calling and vocation from God to ensure wholeness and healing of the sick and those in pain. Nursing entails application of acquired knowledge and skills in care to relief others from pain and distress (Swihart & Martin, 2019). I believe that nurses are answerable to God and must depend on truth and personal intuition when making critical decisions in care delivery. As a nurse I believe that holistic care for patients is essential in uplifting their spirits and making them feel worthy and valued before all people. To progress in nursing art, a nurses should be willing to handle the broken part parts of their lives through self-awareness and seeking changes and growth to handle patient problems.

Nurses must be compassionate, loving, sympathetic, and genuine to all patients, regardless of their condition. As a nurse, one should strive for personal growth in order to provide holistic care, develop genuine human connections, therapeutic relationships of trust, and respect for patients’ diverse cultural beliefs (Létourneau et al., 2017). Nurses should provide hope to patients in difficult situations and strengthen their spiritual aspects by incorporating them into care practices and interventions. Nurses should allow patients and their families to engage in religious activities without interfering with medical care and intervention (Wilson et al., 2018). Nursing practice and professionals, I believe, are influenced to serve as a link or transition between culture and therapeutic interventions. The implication is that, as a nurse, you must cultivate a positive attitude toward different cultures through cultural competence training. The application of personalized care, in which nurses and patients collaborate to achieve better and optimal outcomes, is at the heart of this worldview.

Applicable Nursing Theory

Nursing theories provide patients with guidelines and specific approaches to achieving specific patient outcomes. Using these theoretical perspectives and evidence-based models, nurses create care plans to improve the quality of services provided to patients, regardless of their conditions. The mutual therapeutic relationship that exists between caregivers, particularly nurses, and patients and their families is essential for personalized and holistic care. Patients can grow in a healthy and creative way, according to Josephine Paterson and Loretta Zderad’s Humanist theory of nursing, when nurses relate and interact with them based on experience and training (Brousseau & Cara, 2017). The approach to nursing taken by this model emphasizes the importance of an effective nurse-patient relationship in which both individuals influence the outcome of the nursing process and interventions, which is consistent with my personal worldview. The implication is that, like medical interventions, the interaction and relationship between a nurse and a patient influence the patient’s healing. While the nurse and the patient may have different opinions and expectations due to their diverse backgrounds, the humanistic approach to nursing ensures that each relationship between the two people is unique, with the goal of developing a patient’s physical and emotional health (Létourneau et al., 2017). Nurses and patients collaborate in a variety of ways in this model to ensure that they engage in nursing practice activities and interventions that benefit both the patient and the nurse. My personal worldview, like the model’s, emphasizes the importance of cultivating genuine caring interactions with patients in order to improve care delivery via a humanistic approach or holistic care.

Nursing theory reinforces my approach to care by encouraging increased patient engagement and participation in their care. Humanistic theory in nursing implies that nurses should demonstrate effective human skills and understand their patients from a human perspective in order to achieve better outcomes (Khademi et al., 2017). Because it encourages nurse practitioners to develop genuine interactions and relationships in order to develop evidence-based interventions focused on better care delivery, the model reinforces my approach to care. The model emphasizes the importance of ensuring that human caring is the ultimate goal of nurse practitioners in their various specialties and nursing practice settings.

Worldview and Nursing Theory in Development of my Future Practice

My worldview in nursing practice advocates for personal growth as a nurse in knowledge and skills to attain higher level of competence, especially based on increasing diversity in healthcare. Through my worldview, I can build on proficiency in nursing and use evidence-based practice interventions to offer holistic care. On its part, the humanistic theory in nursing advocates for the development of therapeutic relationships between patients and providers. Therefore, these two aspects will help to develop more ethical and spiritual dimensions of care by factoring in the characteristics of each patient and their psychological and spiritual needs (Weitzel et al., 2020). Through the approach, I will expand my holistic thinking and approach to care to ensure that patients understand that their cultural practices and heritage are essential in their healing journey.

Conclusion

Worldviews influence a nurse’s philosophy of their practice and direct care that they provide to patients. Nursing theories and models are essential in improving one’s nursing practice through positive influences related to their health and the quality of life for patients. when certain nursing models are used based on one’s specialty, there is a strong possibility of enhancing overall care delivery and overcoming care challenges.

NUR 513 Assignment Worldview and Nursing Process Personal Statement

As a nurse practitioner, one is exposed to a variety of situations that necessitate the use of humanistic and holistic care approaches. When I was dealing with a patient from a different cultural setting and background, I needed to use the model. The middle-aged patient wanted to access mental health care services at our facility but didn’t know how because of a language barrier and limited understanding and use of English. The patient was unable to communicate effectively, and his mental health issue made it difficult to understand what he desired. Fortunately, as he tried to explain his problem, one of the patients came out and said she understood what he was saying. I took the patient and the translator to the physician as the lead nurse in the outpatient department. She referred her to the facility’s mental health department for an eventual diagnosis. This implies that the humanistic approach necessitates nurses demonstrating a caring attitude and being willing to assist patients in achieving a better experience and outcome. In this case, the patient desired additional information in a language he could understand.

Nursing theory and my worldview enabled me to become more interested in the patient and attempt to understand what he desired. It was clear that his main goal was to get help for his mental health problem. As a result, the patient expressed his concerns through the translator, and the physician referred him to the mental health department for effective intervention (Oxhandler & Parrish, 2018). The model enabled me to tolerate the patient while also attempting to understand him in order to provide care.

For this assignment, please make sure to review the rubric to see exactly where you need to focus. Though you have directions, I highly recommend reviewing this rubric as that is how I will be grading. If there is ever a discrepancy between the instructions and the rubric, ALWAYS follow the rubric. Make sure to use the APA Writing Checklist as you are writing your paper. You will also need to attach this as an APPENDIX inside your paper. Many students struggle with this, so I encourage you not to wait until the last day to figure out how to do it. There is a copy of this checklist under Topic 5 on the assignment. The formatting should not change, and you must attach it. I have previously had some students who cannot figure out how to do this. If you are one of these students, please reach out to others BEFORE Wednesday because everyone will be busy finishing their papers. So I am encouraging all of you to format your papers early and include this checklist so you do not struggle with it when the deadline is near.

As always, feel free to post questions in the Class Questions and title them Topic 5 if they relate to this assignment. Only three more weeks to go; you can do this!
