With many people still facing health care access problems, initiatives to improve access to care should be highly recommended and supported. Healthy People 2030’s guiding principle is health improvement characterized by timely and high-quality health care services (Healthy People 2030, n.d.). With a significant proportion of Americans lacking health insurance, access problems will continue affecting health outcomes adversely unless sufficiently addressed. This discussion explains the most beneficial Healthy People 2030 objectives for Access to Care to patients with chronic Illnesses.
One of the Healthy People 2030 objectives for Access to Care includes reducing the proportion of emergency department visits with a longer wait time than recommended. The other objective is increasing the proportion of adults getting recommended evidence-based preventive health care (Healthy People 2030, n.d.). Based on the projected outcomes, the most beneficial objective is increasing access to preventive health. Synnes et al. (2020) found that patients with chronic illnesses are vulnerable to health complications and other chronic illnesses. Accordingly, they need preventive health care services to reduce the vulnerability and enable them to cope with their present conditions. Access to evidence-based preventive health care has also been described as an effective way of preventing disease and early death (Tremain et al., 2018). Team-based care and copays’ reduction enable patients to receive the required services. Increasing access to preventive health will improve overall health outcomes and play an instrumental role in reducing emergency department visits.
In conclusion, increasing access to preventive health care is crucial for people with chronic illnesses. For a healthy populace, it is important to initiate health programs that promote healthy living, and focusing on people with chronic illnesses is essential. As a vulnerable population, access to preventive health care promotes health and reduces mortality rates. Strategies that help to achieve this goal should be increased to optimize current outcomes.
