Title: NR 500 NP Reflection on Learning

This week I learned in depth about Evidence Base Practice and how it is important to implement that in my future NP practice.
Evidence-based practice in nursing involves reviewing and assessing the highest-quality and most current research to inform care delivery. Nursing Practitioners (NPs) have a vast knowledge that allows them to refer patients to specialists, order laboratory tests, and write prescriptions to diagnoses (Clarke et al., 2021). Other specialists also recognize them as having different skills and knowledge, including their role in research and EBP. More particularly, my role in implementing EBP as I contemplate my future as a nursing practitioner will involve administering standardized surveys, completing needs assessments, and carrying out small-scale plot projects and qualitative studies (Clarke et al., 2021). My role will also involve conducting structured literature reviews to identify future research priorities, influence policies, and inform my patients and other professionals of the excellent available evidence when making clinical and healthcare decisions.

Clinical scholarships entail various activities that aim to systematically advance nursing practice, research, and teaching through rigorous inquiries. Therefore, as NP, I will engage in the scholarship in various ways, including working with other medical professionals and NPs to systematically examine quantifiable outcomes impacting the cost of care, the quality of care, and patient’s health in general (Clarke et al., 2021). I also engage the professionals in systemic evaluation of what I do within my practice and in my research and later document my progress and contributions to the nursing practice.

The major challenge in healthcare systems today is delivering reliable, consistent, and high-quality services. EBP aims to guarantee the professional and individual development of healthcare professionals such as nurses, reducing care costs and enhancing the overall quality of care (Clarke et al., 2021). However, there are numerous systemic barriers to implementing EBP at an individual and organizational level. Some of the obstacles, in this case, include a lack of resources, such as a shortage of nurses, insufficient access to libraries with good nursing journals, and a heavy workload (Clarke et al., 2021).

Title: NR 500 NP Reflection on Learning

As I wrapped up the readings and assignments for week six, I realized the real importance of evidence-based practice in my future role as an adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner. I plan to constantly re-evaluate policies and routines in my practice to ensure it is the most current and effective methods, as shown by evidence-based projects. Of course, there will always be barriers. I feel that experienced providers often give push-back on new change since they believe that old practices “are fine” as “they’ve always worked”. I will continue to advocate for my patients through updating old practices as suggested by evidence-based projects.

Reflection is an important practice in nursing practice. It informs nurses’ practice by contributing to their identification of areas of improvement in their roles in the patient care process. Nurse practitioners should demonstrate abilities to enhance their practice using evidence-based interventions. Therefore, this paper is a reflection of my experience with this week’s learning.

Nurse practitioners play an important role in the promotion of evidence-based practice in their roles. As a result, I view my role in the implementation of evidence-based practice to encompass several aspects. One of them is being a change agent. I view my role being a facilitator of change in the implementation of evidence-based practice. I have to adopt interventions such as open communication, training, and active involvement of the adopters of change for successful implementation of evidence-based practice.

I also have to assess the need for evidence-based practice in my role. It will include assessing crucial and potential needs in my organization and recommending change initiatives to address them (Belowska et al., 2020). Lastly, I envision my role to include advocating for the right culture that supports evidence-based practice. The organization’s culture should enable best practices utilization for the optimum health of those in need.

My future role also entails my engagement in scholarship as a nurse practitioner. One of the ways in which I will engage in scholarship is by publishing articles on issues that affect nursing practice. I will conduct studies to explore how to improve outcomes in nursing practice using best-available evidence. I will also engage in scholarship through continuous professional development (Trautman et al., 2018). I will explore opportunities such as professional trainings to improve my scholarship skills. Some barriers may be experienced in the implementation of evidence-based practice.

One of them is resistance to change. The adopters of the evidence-based practices may resist them because of the lack of knowledge and skills, fear of the unknown outcomes, and their inadequate involvement. The other barrier is the lack of institutional support. Health organizations should support change by creating an enabling culture as well as providing adequate financial, material, and human resources (Bach-Mortensen et al., 2018). Therefore, interventions to minimize these barriers should be adopted.

In summary, I will play crucial roles in the implementation of evidence-based practice as a nurse practitioner in the future. I will be actively involved as a nurse scholar to advance evidence in nursing. I may experience barriers such as resistance to change in implementing evidence-based practice. Therefore, I should be ready to implement responsive interventions to prevent them.
